Perpetual Calendar Series - September

Hello Crafty Friends,

It has certainly been a while, but I have filmed, edited and finally posting a completed month for my Perpetual Calendar.  Allow me to introduce September! The video is at 4 times the real life speed so it took me a couple of hours to complete this month start to finish (excluding the many interruptions from the family), which I think is a pretty manageable time commitment.  It did help that I used my heat gun to speed up the trying time. I also got a chance to you my new Waffle Flower Media Mat which I loved to paid on but think in future I will still mix my Daniel Smith and Schmincke paints on a white porcelain plate (I don't know what it is about porcelain but it mixes so beautifully on it) the built in pans will be awesome for my Tim Holtz distress ink and my liquid watercolours though.  I've listed the supplies and colours used for this month below the video (sorry no links I haven't set up any affiliated accounts as of yet).

If you wish to view the set up of each calendar month and hear me speak about the supplies used check out my previous post Perpetual Calendar Series - Set-up where I stamp out and prep the calendar months ready for painting.

Perpetual Calendar Series - The Set Up

Hello and Welcome to a New Project.

The Perpetual Calendar or as some call it the Birthday Calender. For years I never knew these even existed and just kept rewriting everyone's birthdays each year, the perpetual calendar on the other hand is an on going calendar that you can use every year since you don't include the Monday - Sunday columns. You just list the number of days in the month and write birthday and anniversaries next to the right date. Now I know this is the wrong time of the year to be thinking of this but back in January I searched the shops for a pretty calendar I wanted a really good one since I'd be using it year after year and found nothing! Eventually I resorted to the Google search and more nothing, then Etsy which was something... but still not exactly what I was looking for. Although it did give me an idea, some of these calendars where simply hole punched with a single hole and ribbon was used to hang them. Now I have tons of stamps, artist grade watercolour paint and arches hot press watercolour paper just sitting in my studio soooo... new project time!

Since it's a perpetual calendar that get used year after year it really doesn't matter when I start during the year so the plan is to start with the month of April. But that will be the next post in this series, with the idea to post a monthly blog with a video on YouTube. Todays blog and video is all about the set up. I pre cut the paper for the whole year, worked out a basic template and pre stamped each month with Distress Ink - Antique Linen. The paper is Arches Hot Press Watercolour in 300gsm cut vertically down the centre. I used stamps from my stash that fit the space, lots of the stamps are from older sets and I'm not sure if they're all still available but it's all about personal choice.  I wanted to use more artsy stamps that have been long time favourites from a variety of brands but that's what I wanted.  Just go though your on stash and pick out the sets that speak to you, each month can be totally different it doesn't need to have a work with the month before or after.  Then pick you choice of colouring medium... I'm going to use watercolour so I choice high quality artist grade paper and I will be using artist grade watercolour to colour each month, this is for light fastness I want it to still look good in 10 years! But you could colour in copics, coloured pencil or whatever else you have on hand just check you they're light fast and just a heavy weight paper.  But I'll list my stamps used in each months post just in case anyone wants to know.

Below is a video of the set up in super high speed, also my first ever voice over video... please be kind.  I'd love to know what editing apps everyone else uses... that work on android. I film on my phone and will be editing on it too. I've got a good app for my haul videos but it doesn't have a voice over feature.

Enjoy and Take Care

Welcome to my Blog... and my studio.

Welcome Crafty Friends to my new blog! It's been a while in the making but I'm finally up and running. While I have been posting video's to YouTube for a number of years (4 I think) I really wanted a space to post still shots of projects, type up lists or instructions and have things all in one spot. Not having this space has really for some reason put me off doing anything more than videos of my hauls of new crafty goodies but now I have no excuse.

As far as content and what my future plans are for this blog are I'm going to be honest and say that at this stage posts won't be a regular schedule it will depend on when I get a chance to work on a project. And if I'm doing something cool or interesting I'll film it and post it to share with you. So if you subscribe or have already subscribed to my YouTube you should stay up to date.

Now for my first post I wanted to give you an up to date look at my craft room... although I think I might start calling it my studio... sounds so much better doesn't it. It's a muti-purpose room that doubles as the guest bedroom, 2nd living room/kids room but I make it work. Ikea is definitely visible in here and you may also notice I'm not a fan of plastic.   I've got very little plastic storage only my sequins and embossing powders are stored in plastic containers, this is more from an aesthetic point of view but does have the added bonus environmentally speaking .  I much prefer glass jars, wood and cardboard cd/dvd boxes for my stamps.  Both desks are from Ikea along with the grey shelves (these are from there pantry shelving that I stained grey) along with the picture rail wall shelves.  The cube divided wall shelves are from Kmart (Australia) and glass jars are just washed and cleaned food containers from the grocery store.  Eucalyptus Oil is amazing at removing labels.  Well hope you enjoy.
